I’m Movin’ On

As a few of you know, this past year has been really challenging for us. Lana and I have written at least 20 different blog posts about the challenges and then deleted the posts or left them to stagnate in the Drafts folder. We have wrestled with how transparent to be on this blog but we are committed to being real so expect more of the same from here on out. We think it’s better that way.

Tomorrow we move. This is a physical move to a new house in a new location. One of our friends told us that moving house is often the best thing to do for a fresh start. We were lucky to find our dream house straight away, but we hadn’t sold our home at the time. Whilst this seemed like a problem, one of our friends was quick to recommend Reali to us. Apparently, they sell your old home for you, whilst you move on into your new house. That sounded so ideal and easy. She said she’d used them before, so we thought about using them too. Now, we’re finally moving into our new house tomorrow. It’s going to be a busy time. There are a few things that I want to change in the new house but I’m not in a rush to get them done. I’ve been looking at outdoor storage buildings for the garden and I’m tempted to get one ordered. I’ve also been thinking about getting one of the bedrooms redecorated but as I said, I’m not in a rush to make any changes. The new home needs some new patio doors too, so I’ve been looking at infinity patio doors. I just need to get settled in first and then I can start thinking about remodeling. There are so many different things to think about when you move to a new home, of course, we are excited about this new beginning but we want to be as settled as we can be right away! We’ve obviously hired a contractor to look over the property but there are so many other things like have you heard about sewer line repair? I mean, I think the worst thing to happen when you’re moving to your new home is an issue with the plumbing and especially the sewage, so we also looked around a few different companies like Apollo Plumbing to make sure we had no worries about the internals of the property. I am so excited to be moving away from all the negative things in my life and towards a more positive future and this should give us a fresh start in a new area. However, it is also more than that. We are moving on from a year that can only be described as painful and difficult. We are leaving behind a year of attacks, marginalization, manipulation, and use and abuse by multiple family members and moving on to what we hope and pray is a healthier life for our family.

A while back Lana’s cousin, David, co-wrote I’m Movin’ On. Rascal Flatts performed I’m Movin’ On and it won Song of the Year. Great song, great lyrics and very applicable for tomorrow.

I’m Movin’ On

I’ve dealt with my ghosts and I’ve faced all my demons
Finally content with a past I regret
I’ve found you find strength in your moments of weakness
For once I’m at peace with myself
I’ve been burdened with blame, trapped in the past for too long
I’m movin’ on

I’ve lived in this place and I know all the faces
Each one is different but they’re always the same
They mean me no harm but it’s time that I face it
They’ll never allow me to change
But I never dreamed home would end up where I don’t belong
I’m movin’ on

I’m movin’ on
At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me
And I know there’s no guarantees, but I’m not alone
There comes a time in everyone’s life
When all you can see are the years passing by
And I have made up my mind that those days are gone

I sold what I could and packed what I couldn’t
Stopped to fill up on my way out of town
I’ve loved like I should but lived like I shouldn’t
I had to lose everything to find out
Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road
I’m movin’ on

I’m movin’ on
I’m movin’ on

Unasked Questions

Oh, how cute. How old is she?
Six. So is she in first grade?
Who is her teacher? Does she have so-and-so?
What’s her favorite subject?
Are you taking her to the <fill in applicable event name here>?
Do you want to get together for a play date with her and my daughter?
Oh my goodness! She doesn’t look like you. Is she adopted?
So how does she get along with her older and younger sister?

She would be seven this summer…but she’s not.
She would be in first grade…
Who knows what her favorite subject would be or if she would like school at all.
Taking her to that great event? Nope.
Play date? Not gonna happen.
Questions about her adoption? Only rarely from those who knew.
Getting along with her sisters? Someday…

There are so many questions that I would love to answer about her and would love for her to answer herself…

Monday Morning Madness

This is pure genius!

Watch this video and then do what it says at the end of the video. Be sure to turn on your speakers or, ahem, wear a pair of headphones if you are at work 😉

If your keyboard doesn’t work for some reason, try clicking in the middle of the video with your mouse and then clicking the letter keys on your keyboard.

You’re welcome!
